In cooperation with the Hennepin County Community Corrections Department, CREATE, Inc. offers a day long, cognitive skills, class designed for the first time DWI offenders.  This class will be an intensive eight-hour session followed by a presentation by the Minnesotans for Safe Driving.  To enroll, your judge or probation officier will direct you on the "how to" using the Hennipin County appointment system.  CREATE does not enroll you.  We strongly urge you to bring your enrollment receipt or confirmation to the class and arrive by 7AM.

 

Participants will be assigned to our class, which is held the first Saturday of the month (which began July 2007).

 

WHEN:  Class begins promptly at 7:30 AM.  Late-comers will be turned away.

WHERE:  The Hennepin County Government Center, 300 S. 6th Street, in the Jury Room lower level.

 

WHAT:

  •         Bring a bag lunch and dinner (nothing messy) and change for beverages.  There will be no eating or drinking during presentations.  You will be expected to clean up after yourself.
  •         Bring a pen or pencil.
  •         No alcohol or other drugs in you or on you.  If you smell alcohol or appear under the influence, you will be refused entry.
  •         Be well rested; dozing during the day will not be tolerated.
  •         There will be short lunch and dinner breaks.

 

WHY:      This is a long day filled with lectures followed by practice sessions.  You will be expected to actively participate in the learning that takes place.  Class is designed to give you the tools necessary to realize how your thinking led to this offense, how to reframe your thinking, and gain the skills to avoid future legal and chemical health problems.
